Running your rental business: The security issue that you’re forgetting about

You of course know to re-key in-between tenants.  But are you also “re-keying” your garage door?

Old codes on garage door openers or keypads could cause security issues for new tenants

Be sure to re-set any garage door openers and key pads.  Just like with a key, a former tenant (or tenant’s visitors) could have the current code for either one.  And if a tenant has a car that has the code programmed in, it would be especially easy to get in to the house.

Alternatively, you can choose not to supply garage door openers.  That forces the new tenants to buy their own remotes, and therefore have new codes.  I think that it’s much nicer to provide the remotes, but that’s me.
